I didn’t realize how much I missed Evangeline and Jax until I was back in their world again.
The Mirror of Infinite Endings by Stephanie Garber brought me straight back to one of my favorite fantasy-romance series, and I had an absolute blast revisiting it.
I read the original Once Upon a Broken Heart trilogy years ago, and it remains one of my favorite fantasy-romance series. So when I heard we were getting a book 3.5 novella, I had very high expectations. Novellas can be tricky, especially when they’re connected to a series you already love. Sometimes they feel like a little extra content that you could easily skip.
That was not my experience here.
The Mirror of Infinite Endings brought me right back to Evangeline and Jax’s world, and honestly, I loved being there again. The magic, the atmosphere, the tension, the characters… it all felt familiar in the best possible way.
And yes, I still hate Marisol. LOL

The biggest reason this worked for me was simple: Evangeline and Jax.
After reading the original trilogy years ago, stepping back into their world felt like visiting something familiar. Their dynamic still has that same tension that made me enjoy the series in the first place, and I loved seeing that chemistry again.
There is something about these two together that just works for me. Their relationship has never been completely straightforward, and that push-and-pull is still there.
I wasn’t looking for a completely new experience. I wanted more of the world and characters I already loved, and this novella gave me exactly that.
One of my favorite things about the original series was the feeling of magic running through everything. Garber creates a world where things can feel beautiful, strange, dangerous, and completely unpredictable at the same time.
The Mirror of Infinite Endings brought that feeling back.
Even though this is a much shorter story, it still had that same magical pull that made me enjoy the original books. I never felt like I was reading something that existed completely outside the spirit of the series. It felt like another little doorway into the world I already loved.
And honestly, that’s exactly what I wanted from a book 3.5.
Yes, this is a novella. Yes, it’s a short story compared with the original books. But I actually think that works in its favor.
I didn’t go into this expecting another full-length adventure with the scope of the trilogy. Instead, I treated it like a little side quest in a world I already knew I enjoyed.
And sometimes that’s all I need.
It was fun, magical, and easy to get caught up in. I didn’t have to spend hundreds of pages getting reacquainted with the world. I could just jump back in and enjoy being around these characters again.
Honestly, there isn’t much here that didn’t work for me.
The biggest thing to keep in mind is that this is a novella, so it naturally doesn’t have the same amount of space to develop a story as the original trilogy. If you’re expecting another full-scale Once Upon a Broken Heart adventure, this isn’t that.
For me, though, that wasn’t really a problem. I knew I was getting a shorter side story, and I think approaching it that way made the experience even more enjoyable.
I wanted a little more time in this world, more Evangeline and Jax, more magic, and a reminder of why this series became one of my favorites.
That’s exactly what I got.
I had very high expectations going into The Mirror of Infinite Endings, mostly because Once Upon a Broken Heart is one of my favorite fantasy-romance series. Thankfully, this novella didn’t disappoint me.
It brought me straight back into Evangeline and Jax’s world, with the same magic, tension, and strange little pull that made me love the original trilogy.
Was it a full-scale continuation of the series? No. It’s a novella and works much better when you treat it as a side story rather than expecting another massive adventure.
But was it fun? Absolutely.
I loved getting back into this world. I loved seeing Evangeline and Jax again. I loved the magic. I loved the tension between them.
Five stars from me. This series is still one of my favorites, and apparently all it takes to make me happy is throwing me back into this world for a little while.

Title: The Mirror Of Infinite Endings
Author: Stephanie Garber
Genre: Fantasy
Subgenre: Romantasy, Young Adult, Novella
Page Count: 256 pages
POV: Multiple
Narrative Style: Third Person Limited
Series Information: Book 3.5 of the Once Upon A Broken Heart series
Evangeline and Jax. Their chemistry and tension are still there, and honestly, that’s exactly what I wanted.
The Magic. The novella captures the same magical atmosphere that made the original trilogy so much fun for me.
Returning to the World. This felt like a fun little side quest back into one of my favorite fantasy worlds.
Gore Level: 1/5
Very little graphic gore; the story focuses much more on fantasy, magic, adventure, and romance.
Spice Level: 1/5
Romantic tension is present, but this isn’t a spicy fantasy romance.
Profanity: Very little profanity.
Violence: Some fantasy danger, threats, and violence, but it isn’t especially graphic.
Substances: Minimal references to substances.
If you loved the Once Upon a Broken Heart trilogy and want a little more time with Evangeline, Jax, and this magical world, this novella is an easy pick.
I’d especially recommend it to readers who enjoy fairy-tale-inspired fantasy, magical worlds, romantic tension, complicated relationships, and stories where nothing is ever quite what it seems.
I would definitely read the original trilogy first, though. This is book 3.5 for a reason, and I think you’ll get much more out of it if you’re already familiar with the characters and world.
Overall Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Mirror of Infinite Endings gave me exactly what I wanted from a Once Upon a Broken Heart novella: more Evangeline, more Jax, more magic, and another little adventure in a world I already love.
It doesn’t try to be another full-length installment, and I actually think that’s the right approach. This feels like a fun side quest rather than something that needs to carry the weight of the original trilogy.
I had high expectations going in, and thankfully, it didn’t disappoint.
Five stars. I still love this series, I still love this world, I still love the tension between Evangeline and Jax… and I still hate Marisol. LOL
